Conference centre in the offing at Sunbird Livingstonia
Sunbird Tourism plc, a Malawi Stock Exchange-listed hospitality chain, has unveiled plans to construct a modern conference centre at Sunbird Livingstonia Beach in Salima District as one way of serving its customers better.
The hotel chain’s head of sales, marketing and distribution Temwa Kanjadza said this on Thursday in Lilongwe when the company hosted a customer appreciation cocktail at Sunbird Lilongwe’s new pavilion.
She said: “We have recently broken ground for the construction of a state-of-the-art conferencing centre at Sunbird Livingstonia Beach to complement the recently constructed Sunbird Waterfront as well as renovated Sunbird Livingstonia Beach.
“This will position Salima as a key resort destination for conferencing and meetings.”
Kanjadza said the company has also concluded the full rooms’ renovations and upgrade at Sunbird Mzuzu, saying the hotel rooms now have a great ambience.
The rooms upgrade includes new and modern bathrooms with shower installations, contemporary furniture and new carpets.
“These renovations and upgrades aim to improve the guest in-room experience for a memorable stay at Sunbird Mzuzu,” said Kanjadza.
Sunbird Lilongwe general manager Gershom Chirwa said the establishment has a new marquee, a new security fence and a new garden for outdoor events.
He said: “We didn’t have a big venue and we tried to be creative and now we have a marquee.”
Sunbird Tourism plc owns 10 properties, including four city hotels, namely Sunbird Capital and Sunbird Lilongwe in Lilongwe, Sunbird Mount Soche in Blantyre and Sunbird Mzuzu.
It also has three beach resorts along Lake Malawi, namely Sunbird Waterfront and Sunbird Livingstonia Beach in Salima, Sunbird Nkopola Lodge in Mangochi, Sunbird Chintheche Inn in Nkhata Bay, Sunbird Ku Chawe in Zomba and Kalipano by Sunbird in Dowa District.
